I received a broken CyberHome DVD player (model CH-DVD 500) a couple weeks ago. It was one of the first cheap progressive scan players on the market and has been known to have a high failure rate. It powered up fine but wouldn't read any DVDs I tried to play. After cracking open the case I stumbled upon a huge surprise...

This DVD player is essentially a PC. It contains a regular IDE DVD-ROM drive, power supply, and a small logic board. It's powered by a Cirrus Logic CS98200 chip, 32MB of high speed SDRAM, and a flash chip of undetermined size. This could be a nice hacking project but not for me. ;-)
