By day I'm just a regular old college student but by night I'm DJ Stoic, spinner of Electronica, defender of all house music.
Setup
My current setup includes a Numark Total Control MIDI mixer and a cheap laptop. This is my first digital setup and I am really enjoying the freedom and low cost over old vinyl setups I've used.
The Total Control comes with two software packages, Numark Cue and Traktor. I really enjoy the cuing and looping with Cue but the response is sluggish and the interface is choppy. It also has some strange background noises.
Traktor sounds great and the response is top notch but the looping and cuing is cumbersome. I also cannot get it to work with the laptop's audio setup and don't want to drop the extra $100-$200 for a special USB audio device.
I also downloaded the open source DJ software, Mixxx. It doesn't have a built-in profile for the Total Control but it wouldn't be too hard to add one. It's very simplistic and the default theme is pretty ugly but it works well and could be a viable mixer in the near future.
Music
I spin mostly house (electro/chicago/progressive) including artists like Deadmau5, Adam K, Bad Boy Bill, Hatiras, Guetta, and many more. I spin purely for fun when time allows.
I'll post a few sets that I've recorded soon.
